queensland gallery of modern art competition
brisbane, australia
Inspired by the Great Barrier Reef as a highly developed and sustainable ecosystem, the design concept for this competition explored the notion that museum space is like an ocean and art is like the bewildering world living in the ocean. Parallel with the design concept is the idea that the intellectual journey of the artist’s process could be transformed into a spatial experience. In stark contrast to the apparent simplicity of the ocean viewed as a seascape, there is mystery and complexity hidden just below the surface. As art has a bewildering basis of creation, the design idea of the museum is a hint of the sea as a universal metaphor for the confinement of art.
