555 is a 9,000 SF medical office building that organizes building footprint, parking and stormwater areas vertically instead of the usual horizontal land intensive arrangement. The 200 foot long Corten steel truss structure is supported by 4 pilings and Corten steel columns that extend down to bedrock to have minimal impact on the water ecology of the site. Orientation of the building with the longest dimension along an east-west axis, a recessed and shaded south-facing wall, and vertical sun-tracking fins along east and west walls protect building areas from direct solar heat gain. Location along the southern edge of the property along with the vertical organization of building, parking and stormwater areas preserves nearly two-thirds of the site in a natural condition which is augmented by a water-loving landscape of Cypress trees and fields of bromeliads.
